HAIR GROWTH SECRETS: 6 Things You Can Do Right Now

Emil Albrechtsen

While genetics play a huge role in hair growth, several other factors also come into play. If you want to grow out your hair, here are 6 easy ways to do it in a natural and healthy manner that won’t cost you extra. Keep in mind, growing out hair can be quite the process. To be honest, it’s trying and sometimes you might want to give up, but you shouldn’t do that. Instead turn it into a joyful journey where you keep your end goal in sight and change your lifestyle for the better along the way. Spoiler: there’s no magical formula for instant hair growth, but there are steps you can take to boost the health and growth of your hair. Here’s where to begin.

1. Get Your 8 Hours

Sleep. It improves just about anything and it’s critical for your body’s regenerative processes, including hair growth. When we sleep, we’re in a state of recovery. This means that our cells are repaired and regenerated while we sleep. That’s why it’s essential to get those 7-9 hours of sleep every night to keep your hair growing healthy.

2. Exercise Regularly

Exercise can help hair grow because it increases blood flow and circulation throughout the body. An increase in blood flow means that more nutrients and oxygen are reaching the scalp. By performing 30 minutes of cardio at least three times a week you’ll help nourish your hair follicles. Then, when you feel more comfortable, you can add some resistance training.

3. Choose Healthy Food

Decisions, decisions. Seems so simple, right? But once the hunger kicks in it can be difficult to make good and healthy food-decisions. It’s important that we take care of ourselves and NOT consume loads of junk, sugar and fat. Like the rest of your body, hair needs a variety of nutrients to be healthy and grow.

Here’s a simple list of what your body needs to keep your hair healthy:
Protein: It’s essential to have protein in your diet to maintain healthy hair growth. However, actual protein deficiency is extremely rare in Western countries.
Biotin: Our hair is coated with a fatty membrane and it’s important to keep it healthy. Eat foods like avocados, salmon and nuts. The good fats, not the bad ones.
Vitamins A-C-D-E and Zinc are also important. Remember, food is the best source of the vitamins you need for hair growth. However, if you fail to get enough in your diet, supplements may be helpful.

4. Drink Plenty of H20

Did you know that we should drink an average of 2 liters of water every day? Since the majority of the human body is made up of water, it kind of makes sense. We lose about two to three liters of water every day: through sweat, breathing etc. Consequently, water is crucial for the body's everyday biological function, including healthy hair growth.

5. More Conditioner & Less Shampoo

Shampoo is great. It cleans your hair of product buildup and pollution, but you probably already know that you shouldn’t necessarily use it daily. That is, unless you use a heavy amount of greasy product. Then it’s a good idea to use a mild shampoo every day to keep it clean.

The most important (often left-out) step when washing your hair is conditioner. It moisturises and is great for preventing split ends and rebuilding damaged hair.

6. Stress is a No-Go, so Keep it Low

Stress can affect hair growth as well as overall health. Constant stress puts a toll on the whole body, and because hair is not a vital organ or an essential tissue, our hair is first in line to take a hit.

Enjoy your life, spend weekends with people you love, and find a good balance. It’s amazing how certain activities can help destress us. Without stress, you’ll feel happier, and you’ll ultimately lead a better life. Bonus: Your hair will look healthy too.
